About

HSGR’s a place for creativity, collaboration, research, development and, of course, education.

It is more than just a physical space: It is a dynamic community with ideas inspired by the Open Source philosophy.

For invitees - Ask one of the HSGR operators/members to show you around the space first. Likely either one of us will be there almost every day.

For operators/members:

! Elucidate the importance of Open source practices within the space, needs to be well defined here, as:

“ Anyone can utilize the lab and physical space whatsoever for projects, provided that they are open source and their codes, plans and designs are made public under an open source license. All consumables used during the process should be renewed or replaced in some form. ”

== Guided tour == 

• Start (indicatively) by showing the front physical space at a glance:

o working bench & associated infrastructure in the main compartment,

o artifacts & loots bench and describe a bit the significance of the PicoSats, CubeSats shown there,

o highlight major projects created in HSGR i.e. SatNOGS, UPSAT, QUBIKs etc. and others not necessarily engineering/space related projects,

o show around the rocketry compartment

o junk bench for donations or rare scrap that can be used for project ideas,

o can describe the role of Libre Space, here, how it all started and why it is an essential entity within Hackerspace.

• Move to the lab:

o Heavy machines infrastructure  i. Lathe, ii. CNC machines, iii. Mill, iv. Welding equipment and v. general tools

o Go to  3D printers section, for specs @HSGR wiki

o Electronics bench  soldering station, reflow oven for PCB, manual pick -n- place, oscilloscopes, frequency generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzer, DC loads, many Arduino & MCU dev boards and components, an F-load of electronic components

Remind again, as it’s not clear to most people:

Useful Q/As:

• Is HSGR a co-working space?

Yes, entirely.

• How can I make public my project in HSGR?

We mainly use GitLab repos or even GitHub, Wiki pages or personal blogs as long as they are public.

• Can I rent the space as a working or meetings place?

No there is no concept of renting any part of the space. You can use it for any work meetings or events as long as they are part of open source projects.

• What are the prerequisites for the space/lab/tools/equipment use?

The sole prerequisite is the project at hand to be open source.

• Can I use the HSGR consumables?

Yes, provided that they are renewed or replaced in some manner.

• Can I use any equipment/tools/heavy machinery?

Yes, with a bit of caution to not harm yourself and make sure to follow the safety guidelines. Try to not cause heavy damage to the machines, you are encouraged to leave the space in a proper condition.

• Can I use the space for my Start-up? (?)

• Can I use the equipment for commercial products and extensive production line?

Yes, as long as they are open source or open hardware. Production line could be accommodated as long as it doesn’t disrupt the space operation.

• Can I use the equipment to repair something for which I will receive payment?

Yes, as long as you make the procedure public and communicate the knowledge.

• Can you repair my laptop/PC?

No, but you are welcome to try it yourself by using the equipment. Most of the time there are many willing hands to help.
