Upcoming meetups
Log
Workshop 05/06/2013, by ododos
* Added joystick input to udp client-server program
* Decided to send joystick data as is (16bit signed integer) and do any post processing on board
* Flashed Ubuntu image on Beaglebone, connected via ssh and uploaded udp server program

Workshop 29/05/2013, acinonyx
* Moved forward on sockets with a basic client - server example made and presented by acynonix
* Decided to use IP/UDP stack for control communication
* Made network latency tests that gave an average of 16ms over 3 hops in our lan
* Decided to abolish the, now redundant, identifying 2 bits used for serial communication

Workshop net-pre-meetup 27/05/2013, skmp
* Explained some stuff in the code
* That was all, really

Workshop 22/05/2013, etc
* Decided tag for mailing list -> [hackopter]
* Played a little with qt-creator and C
* connect XBOX joystick on linux
* Decided on logo

Suprise event @ nasa space days 21/04/2013
* skmp -> we now have xbox360 + wii nunchuck for experimentation
* Hacked together C# control ui (slimDX + serial IO)
* Hacked together arduino control software (sucks badly)
* A few (very) unstable flight tests !

Workshop 17/04/2013
microATX 2U Rackmount Case
Description
This is an open source hardware microATX 2U Rackmount Case design. It can house microATX and miniITX motherboards for use as an asterisk PBX or general purpose small server.
The idea behind it is that there are not many cost effective option available when you want to use a rackmount case to house projects.
Existing solution are either very simple and not aesthetic pleasing or require heavy modifications and tooling to get things like lcd displays,connectors etc
Also one of the requirements is for the case to be able to provide sufficient protection on a high vibration environments

Log
27/03/2013 Meeting
Made the following design decisions:
* Move the PSU location behind the motherboard
* Make the box 10cm longer to fit the PSU and the microATX motherboard
* Make L-brackets longer for better support
* Air inlets must be moved to compensate for longer L-brackets
* Main material changed to sheet metal (iron) for lower cost
* Remove metal strip from pci card, use pci riser and create card support on the case

Specifications
* Use with standard size ATX Power Supply
* Access of back panel to front
* Compatible with standard PCI Riser adapter
* Size of 2U Rack Units

Milestones / ToDo
* Decide on material to use (aluminium or sheet metal)
* Decide on how to secure the riser card from the sides also, for use in environments with high vibration
* Get a prototype made

A quadrotor, also called a quadrotor helicopter or quadcopter, is a multicopter that is lifted and propelled by four rotors. Quadrotors are classified as rotorcraft, as opposed to fixed-wing aircraft, because their lift is generated by a set of revolving narrow-chord airfoils. Unlike most helicopters, quadrotors generally use symmetrically pitched blades; these can be adjusted as a group, a property known as 'collective', but not individually based upon the blade's position in the rotor disc, which is called 'cyclic' (see helicopter). Control of vehicle motion is achieved by altering the pitch and/or rotation rate of one or more rotor discs, thereby changing its torque load and thrust/lift characteristics.
Ododos//www.hackerspace.gr/wiki/Quadrotor_Workshop_20120919Quadrotor Workshop 201209192012-09-19T10:57:04Z
Ododos: Created page with "{{Event |what=Quadrotor Workshop 20120919 |tagline=First quadrotor meeting and workshop event |eventowner=ododos |from=2012/09/19 18:00:00 |till=2012/09/19 20:00:00 |where=Hacker..."

Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil or an aggregate medium (known as geoponics). The basic principle of aeroponic growing is to grow plants suspended in a closed or semi-closed environment by spraying the plant's dangling roots and lower stem with an atomized, nutrient-rich water solution. The leaves and crown, often called the "canopy", extend above.

This project's main objective is to develop an open source aeroponic system for home grown edible plants, that one can easily build without much technical knowledge and with readily available materials and tools.

Having and using such a system will provide immediate control of and access to fresh food of superior quality and of known origin.
