Frequently Asked Questions

How often is the space open?

In theory, Hackerspace.gr is open 24/7. That depends on various factors, such as member activity and/or events. An easy way to know if the space is open is to either check the website's attendance counter or check the event calendar for any events, but the most accurate way is realtime communication (phone or Matrix).

If I don't know an HSGR member or anyone from the community, can I still come?

Of course! The space is open for everyone. If it's your first time at the space you can introduce yourself upon arrival and get a short tour from a member. Don't forget to read our vision!

Can I visit if I'm not a hacker?

Hacking is about sharing and being innately curious. Don't get intimidated by the term. If you are interested in sharing your knowledge or learning from others, then Hackerspace.gr is definitely the place to be! Our inspiration comes from the Open Source philosophy.

Is Hackerspace.gr a co-working space? Can I rent working/meeting space?

HSGR is a space that fosters collaboration between people that share its vision. It doesn't offer any space/infrastructure renting services. The space is always open for projects, presentations and meetings that abide to open source practices.

What should I do to organize an event at the hackerspace?

Hackerspace.gr is open to host any event which aligns with our vision. In order to host an event, you need a Hackerspace.gr member that'll help you with organizing and carrying out the event. This means adding the event on our calendar, promoting it on HSGR's social media, working out the logistics of the event and lastly being there on the day to open up the space. You can discuss your ideas about an event either in person, or through Matrix.

What does the space offer? What should I bring with me?

Besides getting to interact with a vibrant community full of intresting people, other amenities include free internet access, lots of reading material and a well equipped kitchen and fridge. The only things you'll need to bring are the will to communicate and share, and optionally your laptop.

Can I use any equipment/tools/heavy machinery?

The only two requirements are:

If you don't know how to use something, you're encouraged to ask someone for help on proper use (for safety reasons).

Can I use the space's consumables?

Of course, provided you renew them in some way.

Is the space open for commercial use?

Yes, but only if all work produced is open source. Companies and start-ups can be accomodated as long as they do not disrupt HSGR's operation.

Can I use the equipment to repair something for which I will receive payment?

Yes, as long as you make the repair procedure open source.

IMPORTANT: Who cleans up the space?

Everybody, including you. Whatever you do, you should always clean up after, and if possible leave the space in a better state than you found it in.
